CAGAYAN DE ORO – CAMIGUIN TRIP

The trip was courtesy of the 4-day PICPA 2010 Regional Conference entitled REBOOT REFRESH RESTART at Cagayan de Oro and Camiguin Island.

Our first day was spent at Pryce Plaza Hotel in Cagayan de Oro where the Conference was held.  The Conference was inaugurated by a beautiful Cagayanon dance followed by an inspiring welcome message from Congressman Benaldo.

The dinner for the first day was at Panatagan Restaurant – the sea breeze and the sound of splashing waves underneath completes the ambiance.  Then, the serenade and the Cagayanon interpretative dance were the amusement for the night.

On our second day, we were given some time to go around Cagayan de Oro and do some shopping.  But with little time to spare, we opted for shopping and just disregard for now the beautiful tourist attractions of the city.  The day was concluded with a fellowship program and a regional presentation/talent competition.

On the third day, we started the day with a ferry ride to Camiguin Island.  We arrived at the island before lunch and checked-in at Paras Beach Resort. Immediately after we settled our stuff, we we’re off for the island tour with the following actual itinerary.
  1. Walkway to the Old Volcano and Stations of the Cross
  2. Cross Marker Sunken Cemetery
  3. Guiob Church Ruins
  4. Sto. Niño Cold Spring
  5. Ardent Hibok Hibok Spring

I truly wished that I could stay longer to explore more of Camiguin Island – like a dip in Katibawasan Falls, a dive in Mantigue Island and of course, a Mt. Hibok Hibok climb.  Ahhh!!! That’s all I can say for now... Camiguin deserves another visit and by then I will ensure that everything is captured as listed.

For this trip, the beautiful full moon coddled the night to console my yearning for a longer dwell.

I thought that was all for the Camiguin tour, but on the last day just before we left for Cagayan de Oro, we did an early trip to White Island.  We arrived at 5:30am and just in time to catch the sunrise.   And wow! -- seeing the beauty of the mighty Mt. Hibok Hibok as it unfolds with the sunrise is an inspiration to revisit it someday...

We bid goodbye to Camiguin at 8am and the laughter therapy as we sail concluded the event.  Till next time....
