PATAR BEACH – BOLINAO, PANGASINAN

It was in year 2000 when I first visited Patar. Back then, it took an hour of rough road drive from the Bolinao proper before the long stretch of white sand welcomed us. There were only 3 of us then and since not even a single cottage stands nor a sight/feeling of other person around, I felt like lost in paradise. The sun as it bids goodbye for the day appeared nearer and bigger than usual. That is my picturesque of Patar -- sunset at its closest.... So every time I’m at this place, I ensure to take home the sunset as captured from my lenses..
For this Tawintawin, Alaminos –Bolinao Trip, our second day was at Patar and the first of my kiddos at this
place. As beach bums, they had the best of Patar’s water. They played even the toads of Patar’s firth, the ugly
duckling lost on shore, the gentle waves smashing the coastline and of
course the fine sand and the beach itself. It was another memorable
experience that is hard to describe.

A friend invited us for a town fiesta celebration at Tawintawin Alaminos, Pangasinan. The town is located between Alaminos and Bani and is accessible from Alaminos-Bani highway through a narrow access road. We left the City around 9am and by 130pm, we reached the City of Alaminos. We did a quick glimpse of the Hundred Islands and by 3pm, we arrived at Barangay Tawintawin.

With 7 kids on the trip, instead of exploring the barangay, we opted to stay indoor to savour the simple feast tendered. Local kids also joined while the adults are doing socials. In the early evening, we witnessed the traditional fiesta celebration where people go from house to house to share the feast; and there’s always a happy host that welcomes each and every guest with a sweet smile.
THE 7 CHURCHES OF ILOCOS – VISITA IGLESIA 2010
For
our Visita Iglesia Ilocos road trip, we visited 5 churches in Ilocos Norte and
2 churches in Ilocos Sur as follows:
Ilocos Norte | St. Andrew
Parish of Bacarra and
the Bowing Belltower where according to history; the leaning position was
caused by an earthquake and was preserved by the supports placed in the
remaining structure of the walls until another earthquake finally destroyed the
tower leaving the present look of a flattened top.

ILOCOS ROADTRIP (Day 2 – DINNER AT CAFE LEONA, VIGAN CITY)
ILOCOS ROADTRIP (Day 2 – DINNER AT
CAFE LEONA, VIGAN CITY)
It has been told that a visit to Vigan
would not be complete without dining at Cafe Leona, so for our Ilocos-Visita Iglesia 3-day roadtrip, our day 2 dinner was at this famous restaurant that
serves a variety of Japanese, Thai, Italian and Filipino dishes. Among the favourites are the wood fired thin
crust pizza, blue marlin steaks, Ilocano local foods like bagnet and longganisa,
and more.... But for those whose hunger can’t wait any longer, buffet style
pre-cooked menu is readily available.
ILOCOS ROADTRIP (Day 3 -- A Day at VIGAN CITY)
The last day of our Ilocos-Visita Iglesia 3-day roadtrip was around Vigan City. We crossed Crisologo St. again to reach St. Paul Metropolitan Cathedral. It was beside the church that we were able to negotiate for a P240 kalesa ride.
By 11:30 am, we’re bound to our last church just outside Vigan City– the Bantay Church or the Shrine of Our Lady of Charity St. Augustine Church in Bantay, Ilocos Sur.
The 1590 baroque and Gothic inspired Parish and the belfry are among the oldest structures in Ilocos Sur which was preserved until today.
ILOCOS ROADTRIP (Day 2 -- A Night at VIGAN CITY)
After our Day 2 at Ilocos Norte of our Ilocos-Visita Iglesia 3-day roadtrip where we visited 5 churches for our Visita Iglesia tour, we’re down to Ilocos Sur particularly Vigan City to complete our mission. At Vigan, we stayed at Vigan Heritage Mansion courtesy of our friend companion.
The City of Vigan, the capital of Ilocos Sur, is one of Philippines’ heritage sites known for the Hispanic looks and cobbled streets like the Crisologo St. that is best photographed at night because of its vintage lighting effects. So for this trip instead of having “socials” before our sleep, we wandered around Vigan City.
Our hotel is situated just across Crisologo St. so as soon as we’re settled in, we’re off for a walk. It was past 8 in the evening already and our tummies are whining for food, food, food, food... For that walk, we passed through Crisologo St. for our Cafe Leona dinner– photo ops will be done later. Afterwards, we checked the tiangge stores fronting a book store hoping for a good buy but unfortunately, we found none. We left the place for St. Paul Metropolitan Cathedral where we had pictures with the kalesa outside the church after our prayers.
ILOCOS ROADTRIP (Day 2 at ILOCOS NORTE)
ILOCOS ROADTRIP (Day 2 at ILOCOS NORTE)
For the second day of our Ilocos-Visita Iglesia 3-day roadtrip, the hang-over from the previous nights’ karaoke “socials” delayed our supposed to be early trip. The group decided to stay to shake-off the booze and regain grace for the Visita Iglesia. We cooked seafood pasta, sautéed shrimp, and other local foods for our meal. Some enjoyed the water while the others had a nap. It was finally at 12noon that we’re on the road again revitalized for our mission.

ILOCOS ROADTRIP (Day 1 at ILOCOS NORTE)
We left the Metro before 11pm for our Ilocos-Visita Iglesia 3-day roadtrip. Our first stop was at Vigan
around 8:45am for a quick late breakfast.
Then from Vigan we headed straight to Ilocos Norte as the start point of our ILOCOS ROADTRIP with the following itinerary:
Region
1 and 2 boundary marker (Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte) –
we arrived at this marker at 2:45pm through the Patapat Viaduct
or Patapat Bridge. The small platform hanging by the edge serves as viewdeck
overlooking the Pasaleng Bay. At the bridge, we had a glimpse of Pagudpud Beaches and a shipwreck from the Japanese occupation. I admired how the zigzagged viaduct was architecturally
structured beside the coastal mountains of Pagudpud.

During our Hundred Islands Trip, the kids chose to spend the rest of the afternoon at the Children’s Island over the other two islands developed for tourists. We rented a cottage and we used as floaters the lifesaver devices from the boat that toured us around the island.

HUNDRED
ISLANDS
Alaminos, Pangasinan
The Hundred Islands is located in
Alaminos, Pangasinan. It is composed of islands and islets scattered along the
Lingayen Gulf. Of the 124 islands only 3
islands were developed for tourists namely; the Governor Island, Quezon Island
and Children’s Island where cottages are available and camping is allowed.
Alaminos is about 4-5 hours drive from Manila via NLEX-SCTEX route. From SCTEX, take the exit to Hacienda Luisita then straight to Pangasinan. Once in Pangasinan look for the roadsign heading straight to Alaminos to avoid passing through the other town proper of Pangasinan municipalities.
