MT. GULUGOD BABOY REVISITED PLUS A CABAN COVE SIDETRIP
It has been a habit of me to take macro-shots of the fauna and flora laying around. This time though, Mt. Gulugod Baboy hid away those beautiful colors... I only had six subjects.. well....
For this climb, we had more stops than walk.... The supposedly one-hour climb became a three hour hike. An hour at the "ice candy" hut, 30 minutes at the Bignay tree and another 30 minutes for jump shots and funny poses.. LOL..
Approaching Gulugod Baboy |
We had a rainy night but we managed to do socials under a tarp shelter. The usual gale of Mt. Gulugod filled our night with some tent having busted poles...
On the next day, we descended before 730am to make time for our Sobrero Island sidetrip. In less than an hour, we reached the jump-off with full enthusiasm despite the perilous look of the waves yesterday. We are positive that today, God-willing, the tides will go our ways.
Yep, the registration area was kind enough to arrange for a boat... Everyone's qualm disappeared at once... Yehey! Sobrero here we come.... Without a minute wasted, we descended to the highway to meet Mr. Boatman. As we drew closer, even with frightful look of the waves as it got bigger, all hopes are high. Until the final words of Mr. Boatman awakened us... It is not possible to cross Sombrero, we cannot trade safety for fun... but... I can bring you to a nearer cove in Caban Island just beside Maricaban Island. Silence temporarily sipped in until we all nodded, yes that will do for now.
True enough, we sailed in the rough seas... Screams filled our trip and the farther we went offshore, the firmer our grip had become. Memories of childhood sail with dear father occupied me... I have full faith that we are safe and we will make it like those days.

By 1pm, we drifted the now calm seas... The earlier screams were replaced by laughter and poses... Until slowly the water formed to wave and a looming storm hailed us. The final kilometer became a breathtaking adventure, a climax unexpected. Thankfully, we returned safe though somewhat stunned... Until next time...
