Part 2 - Gwacheon National Science Museum, Indoor Exhibits (The Aerospace and the Natural History Hall) ~ MOUNTAINS&BEYOND

The second level of the Advance Science and Technology Hall is about the aerospace. It exhibits about the nano world, the astronaut training and living in space, the aircraft pilot training and flight control.

At the entrance, we were hailed by this chamber that says International Space Station.

Then a Mission Control Center with a Mission Director Center and a Launcher Control Center.

They also have Space Exploration Project.

And a model of Apollo Lunar Module.

Then the KSR III, the first liquid propellant rocket developed in Korea and was launched in November of 2002.

And of course the astronauts in different suits.

What my kiddos love in this museum was the hands-on experience. Earlier, my youngest simulated a space project or the positioning of the satellites in the space; she also tried launching and directing a rocket at the Mission Control System; and finally, a closer activity to reality, a feel of the pilot’s work at an aircraft cockpit. Yes, my youngest tried it all. Again, let’s see what the future holds for you my dearest…

For hubby, a history and world events enthusiast, the sight of a T-50 Golden Eagle was a surprise… the T-50s were built for supersonic advanced trainers and multirole light fighters. It was South Korea's first indigenous supersonic aircraft and one of the world's few supersonic trainers. Though he failed to ride it, the illustration about its parts and structure reprieved the frustration.

The aircraft above the T-50 is Korea’s own 1007/K Buwhalho, a light observation aircraft used for liaison missions during the Korean War in 1953. It was in service with the Korean Aerospace until the 1960s.

After the aerospace, the kiddos entered the Natural History Hall. It exhibits about the birth of the Earth, the human species, the ecosystems, and the biological diversity.

The Gallery of Evolution is all about the geological age like the dinosaurs and the like.

They also have a demonstration about the evolution of human life.

Then the Gallery of Life where the highlight was, The Sandy: Playground in the Sea, a three-dimensional aquarium with banded hound sharks about a meter long.

There were more to explore in the History Hall but there are other areas and halls to discover… Maybe next time but for now, up next is the outdoor exhibit…
