THE WATERFALLS OF MT. ROMELO
This was my nth
daytrip to Mt. Romelo but the most explorative one. We ascended through
the so called executive private trail leading us straight to Sampalok
falls. The trail from the jump-off to Sampalok falls was not that
established and limatik was very much present.
Sampalok Falls |
From
Sampalok falls, we just followed the river to reach Batya-batya
falls. Remains of the uling business/process was visible in some parts of the trail.
All we could do then was to hope for the locals early realization of the pag-uuling
impact to the environment and human as well.
At Batya-batya, several climbers were already present enjoying the falls. So we decided not to stay long and just continue our falls-to-falls exploration.

From Batya-batya, we pursued
again the river trail for our next destination, the mighty Buruwisan
falls. The view and sound of Buruwisan as we drew close brings the
memories of my first rappel experience. It was also Buruwisan that
awakened my desire to explore and enjoy mountains. Way back in
year 1996 that a friend brought us for a day trip to Buruwisan as a sembreak
treat. The malapit na lang term must have been coined several
years back because that was all I heard then. Since it was a dayhike, we
only had a short time to enjoy the falls so I silently promised a return.
Since then, everything about my mountaineering was a history.
Buruwisan Falls |
From Buruwisan falls, we followed again the river leading us to Lansones
falls.
Lansones Falls |
On the way back to the campsite, we passed by
the top of matandang buruwisan falls. Its whistling sound is all we
enjoyed at that moment. Maybe someday an easier trail will be established
to see its full beauty.
It has been said that there is another falls
hidden in Mt. Romelo, the SEBAKON BINAYTUAN FALLS. According to Engr. Rodel, only a
few have explored the said falls because of its dense forest and no established
trail. I cannot even find a picture of it online. Sebakon or Matandang Buruwisan shares
the same prayer as Matandang Buruwisan Binaytuan Falls. Looking forwards to seeing it
someday... Until then :)

ReplyDeletehi, it depends po kung ano ang trip ng group nyo.. buruwisan falls is about 2-3 hours trek while taytay falls is only 15 mins walk. but if you want to camp and stay overnight, it can be done at mt romelo.
Deletehope this helps.
Is it safe po ba sa mga foreigners?
ReplyDeleteyep, I believe it's safe but for more assurance, you can ask for a guide at the registration area or Engr. Rodel's place...

ReplyDeletehi, if you want a tour guide for the whole climb, please email us at mountainsnbeyond@gmail.com, we can refer you to a friend.
Delete-or- you can get a guide at Engr. Rodel's place (just ask around for his house/store) or at the registration area. not sure though how much they charge nowadays or of the standard rate as guide is not a requirement in Mt. Romelo.
the IT is pretty simple, from the jump-off, the trek to Buruwisan is about 2 hours. From there, you can explore the other waterfalls or simply enjoy Buruwisan falls.
happy climbing.

hi cristine, there is no established/fixed rate for mt romelo guideship as most climbers do not require a guide... i suggest you pass by at engr. rodel's house, you can tell them that you were referred by luis and you can ask for a guide na pwede pagkatiwalaan...
Deletehappy climbing :)
how much is the overall expenses???
ReplyDeletehi, it depends on where you're coming from and what mode of transpo you're taking.
Deletethe safe budget for a do-it-yourself assuming from ortigas extension junction is about P500 including already the food, transpo by jeepney and registration fees.
Hi there! we're planing to hike at mt romelo and explore some of beautiful falls. Is there any campsite area near the falls? and if we're from Bicutan taguig, may jeep po kami saan po kami dadaan? at gaano kalayo? anong complete address kung saan kami mag drop off. at pwde ba iwan ang jeep doon? kasi syempre aakyat kami.
ReplyDeletepaano popumunta jan pag galing edsa cubao? ano pong pwedeng sakyan?
ReplyDeleteA photo of Sebakon Falls I found online: http://boybehindthelens.tumblr.com/post/130261456871/6-of-7-sebakon-falls-siniloan-laguna.We were here yesterday, your's are one of the blogs that gave me an idea of the how-to's and what to expect. May you inspire more new mountaineers like me :)
ReplyDeleteAlso as explained by our tour guide, Sebakon and Matandang Buruwisan are just the same. May I know what you meant with "Sebakon shares the same prayer as Matandang Buruwisan"? Sadly, Matandang Buruwisan has been ruined by the previous typhoon :(
Deletehi, thanks for correcting the post... i meant binaytuan falls..
Deletealso, thanks for following the blog :)
