MT. PINATUBO VIA DELTA 5 TRAIL -- Pampanga (The Mt. Pinatubo Experience)

MT. PINATUBO - delta 5 trail 
Jump-off: Porac, Pampanga

From USGS: Until June 1991, Mount Pinatubo rose 1,745 meters above sea level but only about 600 meters above a gently-sloping apron and only 200 meters above nearby mountains that largely obscured Mount Pinatubo from view. The surrounding mountains are older volcanic centers and relics of an ancestral Mount Pinatubo ... The gently-sloping apron consists of thick pyroclastic-flow and lahar (volcanic mudflow) deposits.

ACTUAL ITINERARY

Day 1

4-8am – traveled from Manila to Angeles City

8am – arrived at the delta 5 main jump off to find out that no 4X4 vehicle was waiting
830am – start of the long and winding trek

12nn – lunch on trail

5pm – arrived at the twin falls
6pm onwards – arrived at campsite, set-up camp, dinner and socials
10pm – light´s off

There was supposedly a 4X4 vehicle that will carry us through the lahar filled river but unfortunately, due to miscommunication and/or insufficient coordination, the vehicle didn’t arrive.  We were left with no other choice but to trek all the way to the summit.  This was however compensated by the view of the Pinatubo walls and the twin waterfalls along the way.

DAY 2
5am – wake-up call, breakfast then prepare to assault

7am – started the summit assault
9am – arrived at the summit, stayed for a short time then back to campsite
1030am – Back at campsite, break camp and prepare to descend
11am – started to descend back to jump-off, lunch on trail
6pm – arrived at delta 5 jump-off
8pm – arrived at Angeles city

12mn – traveled back to manila, home sweet home
