AROUND DAVAO CITY

The previous night was among my frightful nights as awakened by the sad news from home....  The possibility of being stranded by the forthcoming storm was another thing that rocked my strength.  It seemed like everything in the universe had convened to sympathize my sorrow, my mourning from losing one of the most important person in my life.... My sanity reminded me that I needed to pull all strength and keep myself together.  The unyielding airline policy was another incident that I had to understand.  They meant only business, no more no less...

That day seemed to be the longest waiting day of my life.  Sleep had left me and tremor was all I felt.  Hubby has tried his best to lessen the grief but the more I struggle, the more it abscond me.  So I decided to busy myself... Maybe the sight of busy people, vehicles, birds, and other things will temporarily fill the waiting time.  Maybe it can temporarily hinder from thinking and feeling too much.  Maybe...

We first dropped by at Magsaysay Park with a seaside view of Samal Island.  I visited the tourism office inside the park to ask directions of the spots around Davao City.  The sidewalk outside the park was filled with vivid colors of the fruits proudly Mindanao produced.  And across the park is the Mindanao Chinatown, said to be the only Chinatown in the Island of Mindanao.

Our next destination was the Philippine Eagle Center.  We commuted by van at Annil Terminal located at Quirino and San Pedro Extension.  I thought Calinan was near but the travel took about an hour.  Travelling doing nothing were my adversaries at that time... I tried to locate Mt. Apo at sight to deflect my feelings until  we finally reached the Eagle Center.  <<rest of the story here>>

The Philippine Eagle Center is located within the Davao City Water District.  It houses the famous Pag-Asa together with several types of Philippine Eagle.

On our way back to Calinan proper, we had a quick stop at Malagos Garden Resort.  I so wanted to stroll around but the sight of butterfly upsets me.  I just stayed in the reception area while hubby was doing some inquiry.

It was near 1pm when we returned to Davao City.  Hunger fled as well but hubby insisted on having something for our tummies.  We stopped at Yellow Fin Seafood Restaurant along Quimpo Blvd.  It was filled when we entered.  Hmmm... that gave an impression that the food must be delicious.  But with no appetite, I didn’t order any.  I just shared hubby’s laing and paksiw na tuna.  I was surprised by the laing, it was delicious and cooked differently.  The taro leaf encloses a what looked-like a ground fish filling and the thick creamy sauce completed the flavor.

After our lunch, we continued our stroll.  We went to Davao Museum inside the Insular Village then the T’boli Weaving Center inside the Pearl Farm Jetty and Hotel.

It was already raining heavily when we left the center.  We decided to go back to the hotel while waiting for the downpour to stop.  Unfortunately, the torrent got stronger and we had no other choice but to spend the remaining hours inside our room.  I calmed myself with a silent prayer that “this too will pass” and that we will be able to return home safe.  Until next time...

Note: For last minute buys, several boutiques/stores at Davao Airport Terminal sells souvenir items at almost the same price as those offered at Aldevinco... So no need to panic buying impulsively some pricey stuffs.
