LUCBAN, QUEZON ROADTRIP [PAHIYAS 2012]

LUCBAN PAHIYAS FESTIVAL 2012

We visited Lucban in its celebration of Year 2012 Pahiyas Festival.  We left the Metro before 7am via Rizal-Laguna-Quezon route and after a 3-1/2 motorbike ride we reached Lucban.  

On our way, we had a quick stop at Pagsanjan Church, had a quick bite of the roadside Bibingka before the Louisiana town and quick glimpse of a parade before we reached the Lucban proper.  The sight of Mts. Banahaw and Cristobal as we near Lucban reminded me of the challenging treks and the beautiful memories of our climbs -- looking forward to summit this giants again.

At Lucban, everywhere and everything you see were adorned with Pahiyas trademark in celebration of the Feast of San Isidro Labrador.  The most common among the houses were the kipig decor of diverse colors.  They also had the streets decorated with banderitas and the main road were filled with different product promos.  The parade of floats and beauties in local-accent design was another attraction.

At Lucban, one should not miss the local longganisa, halo-halo and pansit hab-hab.  Whenever we visit Lucban, the “threes” always tops our must-do list.  During this visit, I had new discovery, the stylish hats from export overruns for only P50 each.  I had it as pasalubong for the kiddos.  To sum my loots from Lucban -- 2 dozens of longganisa, 2 kls of pansit habhab, 4 stylish caps, 2 bottles of nestea festival pitchers and one hamok -- all for P790.

After our walk around Lucban, we visited “Kamay ni Hesus”, a famous pilgrim and casual religious destination located along the highway to Quezon.  I remembered how Father Joey shared the story of “Kamay ni Hesus” in one of the masses he celebrated at Ortigas and I'm happy to experience healing after the mass service.

With the crowded restaurants plus the hot weather, we decided a picnic for our lunch and since we’re at Lucban, we seized the opportunity of revisiting Taytay Falls.  We had for our lunch a half kilo of Lucban's lechon, three cups of rice and 1.5 liters of drinks.  After paying the P20 day tour entrance fee, we trekked for several minutes then there -- Taytay waterfalls.   Our last glimpse of this wonder was way back late ’99 and several stories have been told of how the area was transformed in the decade that went by.  

By 4pm, we hit the road again for our trip back to the Metro but before we left Majayjay, we dropped by Majayjay Church to say our graces and wished for a safe trip home.
