THE LONGGANISA, HALO-HALO & PANSIT HABHAB OF LUCBAN

Whenever we visit Lucban, Salud’s halo-halo, sidewalk habhab sold beside the church, and the garlicky longganisa are always on our list.  So for this Pahiyas Festival, no matter how crowded the streets and the stores were, we found our way to our Lucban comfort foods.

Upon our arrival, tired and hungry from our motorcycle ride, we had Lucban longganisa our late breakfast. I don’t why the longganisa cooked at Lucban is different from those cooked at home.  Hmmm... I need to discover the secret of cooking it the Lucbanses way.

CAGBALETE ISLAND - Mauban, Quezon

Cagbalete Island is accessible from Mauban port via a 45-minute boat ride either by a public or a private boat.  There are two daily trips for the public transport, one at 10am and the other 4pm.  The private transport however is available anytime of the day.  The advantage of the latter is that you can disembark at your preferred resort while for the former you have to trek from the sabang to your preferred resort.

Cagbalete is known for its crystal clear water and its “kilometer” wide shore line during low tide.  This event commonly happens twice a day.  So for swimming-bums, it is highly advised to coordinate with the locals or the resort owner the high and low tide cycles to properly plan the timing of your visit.

LUCBAN, QUEZON ROADTRIP [PAHIYAS 2012]

LUCBAN PAHIYAS FESTIVAL 2012
We visited Lucban in its celebration of Year 2012 Pahiyas Festival.  We left the Metro before 7am via Rizal-Laguna-Quezon route and after a 3-1/2 motorbike ride we reached Lucban.

On our way, we had a quick stop at Pagsanjan Church, had a quick bite of the roadside Bibingka before the Louisiana town and quick glimpse of a parade before we reached the Lucban proper.  The sight of Mts. Banahaw and Cristobal as we near Lucban reminded me of the challenging treks and the beautiful memories of our climbs -- looking forward to summit this giants again.

This was a clean-up drive organized by DENR-Bahanaw PAWB held last October 2009.  We were invited through the Alliance for a Cleaner Earth group.  Our group was assigned to do clean-up from the Cristalino trail up the Suplina falls.

Banahaw has been closed to hikers for several years already.  The effect was already visible with the growth of new trees.  Maybe another year will helped nature to revive itself fully.

Mt. Cristobal and Banahaw shares the same route and both has urband legends told and untold.  Several of which were already written or told but thankfully none happened during our climb.

Early on, we experienced an adversity with our jeepney being stalled.  We had no other choice but to trek all the way to Montelibano house.
